EDUCATION
Each child is given full access to educational facilities according to their
needs, and provided with opportunities to study and do any homework with the
support and encouragement of staff. The Educational programme in place for
Young People staying at Headway homes provides support and encouragement.
Where appropriate, Young People will be encouraged to return to, or
continue with mainstream education. |
|
Some Young People may be excluded from school on arriving at Headway,
or may be unable to attend mainstream education at particular times of crisis
in their lives. During these times Headway’s in-house teaching staff may be
used or, through liaison with the Local Education Authority, pupil referral
units may be utilized. This will provide an individual education programme
for the Young Person with the intention of enabling Young People to return
to mainstream education. These individual programmes of education will meet
the needs of emotionally and behaviourally disordered pupils by providing:
|
|
|
| |
A meaningful and relevant curriculum taking account of:
The special needs of each pupil;
The National Curriculum;
The Curriculum of the School they may progress to; and
Effective links with mainstream education; and
Social skills training and the modification of behaviour; and
A caring supportive environment; and
An appreciation of how the emotional and behavioural difficulties of
Young People may effect the way in which they use educational resources.
All Young People resident at Headway will have an individual education
plan that integrates with the care plan. Care Workers will be fully involved
with the educational programmes provided for Young People and will act in the
role of classroom assistants during the school day where this is appropriate to
the needs of the Young Person. |
